Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Is Weekend Box Office King, Sicario 2 Makes Strong Debut

The dinosaur sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom remained top of the box office this weekend, in its second week of release. The movie, which is the fifth in the franchise that kicked off with 1993’s Jurassic Park, made an estimated $59 million over between Friday and Sunday. This was a 60% drop from last week’s $148 million opening. In comparison, 2015’s Jurassic World made $102 million in its second weekend.

According to Box Office Mojo, Pixar’s Incredible 2 maintained its impressive run and remained at No.2 in its third weekend. The movie earned an estimated $45.5 million, which brings its domestic total to $439.7 million. It now stands as the second highest grossing Pixar film of all-time, leapfrogging Toy Story 3 and Inside Out from last week, as well as the third most successful animated title ever.

The week’s highest new entry was the Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which debuted at No.3. The sequel to 2015’s Oscar-nominated thriller Sicario made $19 million, which is a $7 million bigger opening take than its predecessor. The comedy Uncle Drew entered the chart at No.4, with $15.5 million, and the week’s third new entry was the Indian drama Sunju at No.8. Sunju made $2.55 million from only 365 screens, giving it the week’s third biggest screen average.

Elsewhere, heist comedy Ocean’s Eight remained steady No.5, and has now made $114 million in the US from a more modest budget than many of its big summer rivals. Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War finally slipped out of the Top 10, but Deadpool and Solo: A Star Wars Story remain, at No.7 and No.9 respectively.
