What to Know
Saturday, Sept. 15
Santa Anita Park
$95 + fee (a portion goes to CASA of Los Angeles)
Wayback machines, and time travel devices, and strange elevator-like boxes that allow you to zip forward and back through the decades?
They don’t pop up on every corner. Goodness, they don’t even exist, as far as we currently know, except in films and books and our hope-iest dreams.
But sometimes you can enter a world of bygone-a-tude, one that has a lot of the sounds and sights of a time you knew as a kid, or a time you never knew, except through snapshots and stories.
The musical theme of the day is “21st century bands with a 20th century sound,” and fulfilling that promise is a line-up of great artists and acts. The Shelters, Las Cafeteras, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, Lizzy & the Triggermen, and several more singers of catchy songs and players of delightful ditties shall appear.
Movie cars, photo booths, “barbers and stylists” that know the pin-up fashions well, and other activities and sights shall light up the day, like so many blinking lights on a time machine’s dashboard.
A ticket is $95 for the ten-hour whoop-di-doo, and a portion of your price will be donated to CASA of Los Angeles.
Best leave the wayback machine in the garage, especially if it is low on gas or time-travel fluid; Santa Anita Park has what you’re seeking, on Sept. 15.
But best dress like you’re journeying into the past, for the chance of you meeting fellow time travelers at the VintageVibe Festival is as solid as a snappy, get-your-feet-moving tune.
