16 Posters Explore Destinations on the Edge of Possibility

A collection of vintage-cool posters from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California offer a look at a future on the edge of travel and tourism possibilities. The first “JPL Visions of the Future” posters were launched in 2014. The collection of printable works that capture a dreamer’s view of space exploration now features 16 posters.

The art style might look familiar with its nostalgia-meets-space feel. It borrows heavily from the Works Progress Administration national parks posters of the 1930s and 40s. The idea behind the WPA posters was to spark the public’s imagination for, among other things, travel.

The JPL posters take the same concept, then blast it into the future and even beyond the far reaches of the solar system. The destinations featured below are all places that JPL researchers are studying today, some have even been visited by space probes.
