2019 has been a big year for Netflix which upped its content budget from $12 billion to $15 billion this year. So far, we’ve seen some great hits like the medical investigation series Diagnosed, an eerily-accurate representation of serial killer interviews in Mindhunters, the epic finale to Orange is the New Black, a riveting new season of Spanish crime thriller Money Heist, and much more. So what do the last months of the year have in store? While lot’s of binge-worthy content is streaming as we speak, Netflix is yet to cross off some big tickets items from its 2019 roster. Here’s a list of the best upcoming Netflix movies and shows that will close out 2019 with a bang!

1. The Politician
With names like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, and Dylan McDermott, The Politician already promises to be a great entertainer. The story revolves around a wealthy high-school student Payton Hobart (Ben Platt) who has ambitions of becoming the President of the United States when he grows up. But first, he needs to get elected as the student body president of his Santa Barbara high school. What is promised is a comedic and satirical tale of how to become a politician. The series releases on Netflix on September 27 and is certainly one of the best upcoming Netflix shows on this list.
2. El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie
This one has been a long time coming. The epic series which ran for five straight seasons concluded in 2013, leaving one question on everyone’s lips – Did Walter White A.K.A Heisenberg A.K.A Bryan Cranston actually die? The film is named after Jesse Pinkman’s (Aaron Paul) getaway car from the finale, the El Camino. The trailer and teasers so far tell us that the movie will pick up right after Jesse’s dramatic escape. We’re really hoping the filmmakers spring a massive surprise on us! El Camino releases on Netflix on October 11 and is without a doubt the most anticipated upcoming Netflix movie hitting the service this year.
3. The Laundromat
Hearing Meryl Streep’s name is like a warm and cozy embrace even though she is the original ice queen. The Laundromat casts none other than the Hollywood megastar. Want more? You also get Academy Award winner Gary Oldman and Golden Globe Nominee Antonio Banderas in the mix. Streep plays a vacationer named Ellen Martin, who starts investigating a fraudulent insurance company after her holiday takes a turn for the worse. Oldman and Banderas play the scheming founding partners of the firm. Directed by Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s Eleven) with a screenplay by Scott Z. Burns (The Informant!), The Laundromat hits Netflix on October 18 and will easily be one of the most exciting upcoming Netflix movies of the year.
4. The Witcher Season 1
One of the most hotly anticipated titles of the year, The Witcher is an upcoming fantasy series on Netflix starring Henry Cavill (Superman) in the lead role of monster hunter A.K.A The Witcher. The eight-part series is based on Andrzej Sapowski’s popular novel series by the same name. The Witchers are beast hunters who develop superpowers at an early age in life. These abilities help them bring monsters to heel. But, are monsters really as bad as humans? Some of you may have even played CD Projekt Red’s game by the same name. There’s no release date for The Witcher TV series yet, but it’s certainly one of the best upcoming Netflix shows and one we really hope to see this year.
5. The Irishman
We’ve seen them team up in retro hits like Casino, The Godfather part 2, Goodfellas and some other screen gems. Now, veteran actors Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in this epic mob thriller The Irishman. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film spans the life of Frank Sheeran, a hitman who allegedly worked for the Bufalino crime family. The Irishman drops on Netflix on November 27. This upcoming Netflix movie will also see a theatrical release.
6. The Two Popes
According to Netflix’s summary of the film, the Two Popes “captures the historic turning point for the Catholic Church” when Pope Benedict XVI met with Pope Francis. The title alone is enough to arouse curiosity about how that meet really went down. It’s a story about traditional versus modern approaches to the religion. While Pope Benedict prefers the more orthodox approach, Pope Francis has a more welcoming stance. The Two Popes will release on Netflix on December 20. This upcoming Netflix movie will also see a theatrical release.
