VW And Porsche Recalling 227,000 Cars Over Seatbelt And Airbag Issues

Volkswagen and Porsche will recall 227,000 vehicles over problems with airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners.

News of the recall was first published by Germany’s Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper, Reuters reports. It is understood that the recall affects the VW Tiguan, Sharan, and CC built in 2015, as well as 2015-2016 Porsche 911, Boxster, Cayman and Panamera.

Germany’s KBA federal motor authority has issued the recall, revealing that the vehicles need an update to the software of the airbag control units. Volkswagen confirmed this to be the case in a statement confirming that 227,000 of its own and Porsche’s vehicles are included in this campaign.

A Porsche spokesman added that roughly 23,500 models from the car manufacturer could be affected by airbags or seatbelt pre-tensioners triggering even if the vehicle is not involved in any type of accident. It believes around 3,900 of them are located in Germany.

There’s been no word about which other countries will be involved in the recall, but further news should be made available in the near future. In the meantime, those that do own one of the models in question may want to reach out to VW or Porsche for further information.

The Panamera appears particularly prone to recalls as, since the middle of 2018, it has been involved in at least six separate campaigns in markets around the world, with the most recent came in June due to a rollaway risk.
