Subaru Teases All-New Levorg Wagon, WRX STI EJ20 Final Edition For Tokyo Show

Five years after the debut of the first-generation Levorg wagon, Subaru will bring an all-new generation, in pre-production form, to the Tokyo Motor Show .

The Levorg Prototype is teased in a darkened photo that reveals a sporty rear end featuring pronounced haunches, a big roof spoiler and horizontal LED taillights featuring a new signature. There’s also a teaser video which reveals a new design for the grille and new door handles.

The automaker does not reveal much about the 2020 Levorg, but says it will take full advantage of its latest technologies envisioning “a future that everyone can enjoy driving at the full, at their will” – which, in all likelihood, hints at a semi-autonomous driving capability. The world premiere of the Subaru Levorg Prototype will take place on October 23 at the Tokyo Motor Show.

In addition to the Levorg Prototype, the Subaru stand will include a WRX STI “EJ20 Final Edition” model marking the end of production of the EJ20 engine in Japan. Debuting on the first-generation Legacy in 1989, the EJ20 has been used on a variety of Subaru models, including racing cars in the WRC and Nürburgring 24 Hours.

The WRX STI “EJ20 Final Edition” features special equipment including a balanced EJ20 engine and gold-painted BBS 19-inch alloy wheels. As the name suggests, it will mark the end of production of the EJ20 in Japan at the end of December 2019 as the WRX STI sold there is the last model to use the power plant.

At the same time, Subaru will stop taking orders for the current-generation WRX STI in its home market. As for overseas versions of the WRX STI which use different engines, Subaru says it will continue production of those power plants.

Other new models that will be on display in Tokyo next month include the facelifted Impreza Sport 2.0i-S EyeSight, XV Advance and Forester Advance packing the new e-Boxer mild hybrid powertrain, and VIZIV Adrenaline Concept.
