MAN Confirms New eTGE Kombi Electric Minivan For 9-Passengers

Last year, Volkswagen’s wholly owned commercial vehicle subsidiary Traton   presented the MAN-branded eTGE, an electric van based on the Volkswagen Crafter. In a few weeks from now, it will be joined by a passenger version, which will be called the eTGE Kombi.

The information was confirmed to CarScoops at the Scania Technical Center in Sweden, during the Traton Innovation Days, by a MAN representative, who said that the eTGE Kombi will be unveiled at the 2019 Bus World. Hosted in Belgium’s capital city Brussels, the event will kick off on October 17 for the International Press and one day later for the public.

Unsurprisingly, the eTGE Kombi will use the same recipe as the commercial version, namely a 100 kW (136 PS / 134 hp) electric motor, fed by the 35.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, paired to a 1-speed transmission and front-wheel drive. The eTGE has a 90 km/h (56 mph) top speed and a total range of 114 km (71 miles) in the WLTP test cycle. Expect almost identical specs from the Kombi version too, which will offer space for up to 9 occupants and heated seats on all rows.

Don’t think of the eTGE Kombi as a cheaper alternative to the Mercedes-Benz EQV, because it won’t be available to private buyers. Instead, MAN will sell it to companies, who will use it mainly as a shuttle bus. It could serve different purposes in the future, as other battery options are being considered, the representative added.
