Cars Like The 2006 Ford GTX1 Don’t Come Up For Sale Very Often

A 2006 Ford GTX1 has come up for auction on Bring A Trailer and represents a rare chance to buy one of the most desirable and memorable Fords produced in recent decades.

The Ford GTX1 was the brainchild of the Genaddi Design Group in Wisconsin and while it wasn’t built by Ford itself, Ford did offer some assistance in creating the GTX1s. The first example was unveiled at the SEMA Show in 2005 and eventually hit the market as a Roadster conversion package for already-delivered Ford GT coupes.

It’s hard to say for sure just how many cars were built with some estimates ranging from just over 30 to 50 units, and others, as many as 100 units. The GTX1 pictured is number 33.

This particular example is painted in Mark IV Red and as part of the Roadster conversion, receives a four-piece carbon fiber roof, bespoke engine cover, and large buttresses on the decklid. Also included with the car are 18-inch forged wheels with Bridgestone Potenza RE050 tires measure 255/40 at the front and 345/35 at the rear.

Converting a Ford GT into a GTX1 cost $38,000 although the total cost of upgrades enjoyed by #33 was $43,350 thanks to bespoke Sparco seats and the available convenience package that included a cup holder and center console pocket. All GTX1 models featured engine modifications to increase power from the 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine from 550 hp to 700 hp, even more than the current Ford GT.
