VW To Build Electric ID.4 SUV And ID.3 Hatch In China Too

Volkswagen has released more details about its ambitious electrification offensive planned for China during a presentation called New Brand Design that was held in Guangzhou.

In 2020, the German brand plans to deliver around 300,000 electrified models to Chinese customers. In order to achieve this target, the VW brand will be launching 10 electrified versions of existing models (PHEVs and EVs) in the local market until the end of 2020.

By 2025, deliveries of plug-in hybrid and all-electric models are expected to reach one million vehicles. Obviously, EVs will play an important role for VW in China. By 2023, the automaker plans to offer 10 battery electric vehicles based on the MEB platform in the world’s largest car market, and the first to arrive is an SUV from the ID family.

The VW ID.Next Concept closely previews the ID.4 production EV

VW does not name it specifically, but it’s most likely referring to the ID.4, the SUV version of the ID.3 that will reach North America in spring 2020. The electric SUV previewed by the ID.Next pre-production concept will enter production in China at the end of 2020, followed by the ID.3 hatch which will be made by SAIC Volkswagen at a new plant in Anting.

In addition to the electrification of the lineup, VW will continue to launch models powered by efficient combustion engines. Two of them are SAIC Volkswagen’s Viloran large minivan and FAW Volkswagen’s new Tacqua compact SUV. The latter is a second variant of the T-Cross sold in China.
