Jaguar’s Design Boss Takes Us For A Tour Around The 2021 F-Type

The refreshed Jaguar F-Type has been revealed, featuring a new face and a range of technical updates aimed at keeping the British sports car competitive against its rivals.

Jaguar’s Creative Director for Exterior Design, Adam Hatton, took Carfection for a tour around the 2021 F-Type, showcasing all the changes of the sportiest cat in the range.

Perhaps the highlight of the facelifted F-Type is that front end, which ditched the old headlights for a set of slimmer ones that completely transform the look of the British sports car. The new F-Type looks wider and more aggressive without messing with the proportions of the body, featuring a new clamshell bonnet with more efficient air vents.

The rear end also gets redesigned taillights that now feature what Jaguar calls the “Chicane” lighting signature and a new bumper with an extra horizontal element in the diffuser on the range-topping R-spec variants. Smaller changes include the new range of available wheel designs, as well as the blacked-out badging and redesigned air outlets on the fenders.

Step inside and you’ll see that the 2021 F-Type now boasts a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the brand’s latest infotainment system, which is also capable of over-the-air updates.

The engine range in the US will include a choice between four-, six- and eight-cylinder powertrains. Base F-Type models will be powered by the brand’s turbocharged 2.0-liter unit producing 296 HP (300 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torquel; move up the ladder and you’ll find a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 380 HP (385 PS) and 339 lb-ft (459 Nm) of torque, paired exclusively to an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The new F-Type R tops the range, featuring a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 with 567 HP (575 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque and all-wheel drive. 0-60 mph (96 km/h) is a matter of 3.5 seconds, while top speed is capped at 186 mph (300 km/h).

European customers won’t be offered the V6; instead, they’ll get a detuned version of the 5.0-liter V8 unit, producing 444 HP (450 PS) and 428 lb-ft (580 Nm) of torque. Jaguar will offer this powertrain with rear-wheel drive as standard and AWD as an option.
