Oppo hopes you’ll soon buy a car carrying its VOOC flash charging tech

Oppo has launched a new project to license its VOOC flash charging tech to more companies in the tech space. Its aim is to broaden the support of its proprietary charging smarts beyond its smartphones and chargers.
Dubbed The Flash Initiative, Oppo has initially recruited the likes of Anker, FAW-Volkswagen, and NXP Semiconductors to the program. This suggests that we could see VOOC tech arrive on third-party portable chargers, cars, and other devices through semiconductor support.

Oppo released its VOOC tech back in 2014 — an era when 20W charging was considered pretty quick. Last year, Oppo revealed its 125W charging technology with its dedicated brick. AirVOOC also supports wireless charging of up to 65W.
There is a caveat though — it’s likely that the initial rollouts will be limited to China. Oppo says that its VOOC solution will be available within Volkswagen cars in the country. It failed to provide details for other nations, but it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine partnerships beyond its borders.
It’s unclear when the initial rollout of products will commence. Oppo also announced a contactless charging solution at MWC Shanghai this week, but there’s no indication this tech will be available for use via this initiative.
