TL;DR

  • Leaked European pricing shows the Galaxy S22 Ultra could have less RAM in the base version than the S21 Ultra.
  • However, consumers will still be paying the same price as the base S21 Ultra.

The Galaxy S22 series has been comprehensively leaked over the last six months or so, with CAD-based renders, official renders, real-world images, and specs all appearing online.

Now, WinFuture journalist Roland Quandt has posted apparent pricing details for the Galaxy S22 series in Europe. It shows that the Samsung flagships will start at €849 (~$961) for the 8GB/128GB S22, while the 8GB/128GB S22 Plus will apparently retail for €1,049 (~$1,187). Check out the full rundown below.

These particular price points and RAM/storage sizes are in line with the base Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus in Europe. But what’s interesting is that the base S22 Ultra will retail for €1,249 (~$1,414). That’s the same price as the cheapest S21 Ultra, but the S22 Ultra actually comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage compared to last year’s Ultra being a 12GB/128GB model.

In other words, you’re paying the same price for the base Galaxy S22 Ultra but are getting less RAM than the equivalent model in 2021. Quandt points to parts shortages, inflation, and the effect of Covid as reasons why the S22 series as a whole wasn’t cheaper than the S21 series.

Will the reduced amount of RAM put you off the S22 Ultra?

It’s still a little disappointing that RAM capacity has suffered in the Galaxy S22 Ultra though. Sure, 8GB of RAM is still a solid amount for a flagship phone, but you don’t expect compromises like this when splashing out €1,249 on a device.
