2023 BMW M8 And 8-Series Facelift Light Up With Glowing Grille And New Tech

2023 BMW M8 And 8-Series Facelift Light Up With Glowing Grille And New Tech

In one fell swoop, BMW has introduced the facelifted 8-Series and M8 lineup.

Looking instantly recognizable, the 2023 models benefit from a light re-freshening that incorporates a new “Iconic Glow” grille. As the name suggests, the grille is illuminated to create a “dramatic impression when the new BMW 8-Series is viewed from the front.”

Additional changes are limited, but buyers will find revised intakes, a new color palette, and updated wheels. Furthermore, M850i variants gain aerodynamically optimized M mirrors and the option of having classic BMW Motorsport logos applied to the hood, trunk, and wheels in honor of BMW M’s 50th anniversary.

Interior changes are also minimal, but drivers will find a larger infotainment system. It now spans 12.3-inches, which is a sizable improvement over its 10.25-inch predecessor.

The M8 Is Dead, But Long Live The M8 Competition

The M8, on the other hand, is dead as BMW will only be offering an M8 Competition. It incorporates many of the same changes as the standard 8-Series, but retains a more aggressive grille.

Elsewhere, there are new M Shadowline inserts in the headlights and newly optional – in the US, at least – M Carbon bucket seats. They feature heating and power adjustment as well as illuminated “M8” badges on the headrests. Buyers will also find revised upholstery as well as Alcantara on the dashboard and upper door panels.

Power is provided by a familiar twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine that develops 617 hp (460 kW / 625 PS) and 553 lb-ft (749 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an M xDrive all-wheel drive system, which enables M8s to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in as little as 3.0 seconds.

Customers looking for something more unique will be able to pick up an 8 X Jeff Koons Edition. The model will be introduced on February 17th and feature an eleven color multi-layer exterior as well as a unique cabin with the “exquisite materials” as well as the “very finest leather.”  The special edition will be based on the 850i xDrive Gran Coupe and is BMW’s latest collaboration with artist Jeff Koons.
