TL;DR

  • Support for Android apps on Windows 11 will come at some point in February.
  • Microsoft is calling this a “public preview,” so you can expect plenty of bugs and limited features.
  • You will access a curated selection of Android apps through the Amazon Appstore.

In 2021, Microsoft made headlines when it surprised the world with a secret Windows 11 feature. The company announced Windows 11 users would be able to natively access Android apps through a PC-based version of the Amazon Appstore.

This means that, next month, anyone with Windows 11 will be able to access the PC-based Amazon Appstore. You will no longer need to be a Windows Insider or another type of beta tester.

However, Microsoft’s description of this as a “public preview” undoubtedly means it is still a beta product. You can go ahead and expect bugs, limited features, and plenty of apps to be missing from the store.

Still, this will be the first time that anyone can test out Android apps on Windows 11. Theoretically, Microsoft could end the preview later this year, which would make the service available to anyone in a stable form.
