TL;DR

  • Information about the charging speeds of the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus has leaked.
  • Unfortunately, it looks like the base model won’t gain faster charging this time around.
  • You’ll also have to shell out extra for a charger.

Almost everything there is to know about the Samsung Galaxy S22 trio is out there thanks to numerous leaks and rumors. A lot has also been said about the charging speeds of the new phones, and a new leak now confirms what we’ve been dreading for a while. The vanilla Samsung Galaxy S22 won’t be getting a charging bump this time around.

Images of what appear to be marketing materials for the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus show that the former will stick to 25W charging just like its predecessor, the Galaxy S21.

The images were posted by Dutch website Nieuwe Mobiel. They show that the Galaxy S22 will gain a full charge in 70 minutes. This is quite disappointing when you have phones like the OnePlus 10 Pro and Xiaomi 12 Pro that can reach wired charging speeds of 80W and 120W, respectively. It’s also the third consecutive year that charging speeds on Samsung’s base S series flagship will remain unchanged.

That said, there’s good news for prospective Galaxy S22 Plus and S22 Ultra buyers. As per the leaked posters, the higher-end siblings will support 45W charging speeds. With the faster charging, the Galaxy S22 Plus should be able to reach a full charge in 60 minutes. Promotional images leaked by tipster Evan Blass also show that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will take the same amount of time to charge fully.

Meanwhile, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Samsung won’t be bundling a charging brick with the new flagships. The leaked materials say as much. Just like last year, you’ll have to buy the 25W or 45W charger separately, depending on the model you choose. Alternatively, you can use the same charger lying around if you’re a Galaxy S20 or S21 user.
