Legacy Overland’s Latest Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser Is An Automotive Gem

The all-new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 is a very impressive vehicle, there’s no doubt about that. However, does it have the same allure as a restored and modified FJ40 Land Cruiser from 1971? We don’t think so.

This particular FJ40 Land Cruiser was recently overhauled by the folks over at Legacy Overland and sticks to the original, iconic design but has been upgraded with a host of modern features.

The most significant alteration made to the FJ40 is the fitment of a 350 cubic-inch GM V8 with Holly 6000 CFM carbs that’s coupled to a four-speed manual transmission. Legacy Overland hasn’t stated how much power the Toyota has but it is certainly much more than standard. The GM-sourced V8 also promises to make it sound much better.

Elsewhere, the aftermarket specialist has fitted upgraded disc brakes both at the front and rear while also installing a new power steering system. The SUV is also rocking a Warn M8000 winch and sits on new black wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires. Other modifications made include the fitment of halogen headlights, a spare wheel mounted on a swing-out carrier, and locking hubs up front.

A look inside the cabin shows that it too has been altered. Among the most significant changes made include the installation of a black-painted steel roll cage, new leather-wrapped seats for the driver and passenger, two sideways-mounted bench seats in the rear, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. Legacy Overland has also installed an aftermarket sound system and a modern air conditioning system as well as an 8-ball shift knob.

The off-roader is up for sale and regardless of who ends up buying it, we just hope they actually hit the trails in it rather than treating it like a museum piece. No asking price has been made public.
