Blinken says he will speak with Russia’s foreign minister today.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said this weekend that he planned to speak with his Russian counterpart, Sergey V. Lavrov, on Saturday and that he would press for Russia to de-escalate and to engage in diplomacy to resolve the crisis over Ukraine.

“We’re in the window when a Russian invasion can start at any time if President Putin so decides,” Mr. Blinken said.

Mr. Blinken said the United States did not know whether President Vladimir V. Putin had decided carry out a new invasion of Ukraine, but said, “We do know he has put in place that capacity to act on very short notice,”

Mr. Blinken said that he planned to speak with Britain’s foreign secretary on Saturday night and that he had spoken with Ukraine’s foreign minister earlier in the day.
