Dealers Are Already Hitting The 2022 Kia EV6 With Markups, Some Prices Exceed $80K

As we discovered during our first drive, the Kia EV6 is one of the finest electric vehicles available on U.S. shores but now that it has arrived, some dealers have hit it with hefty markups.

The most expensive variant of the EV6 currently available in the U.S. is the First Edition. This model is capped to just 1,500 units and pre-orders were opened for it in June last year. It carries a $58,500 MSRP. However, the McGrath Arlington Kia dealership in Palatine, Illinois has listed an EV6 First Edition with a total price of $78,875 that includes a $12,000 markup, a $3,995 “interior protection package” and a $2,495 “pro pack.”

It is unclear if the dealership itself placed a pre-order for the First Edition model or if the original reservation holder pulled out of the sale.

First Drive: The 2022 Kia EV6 Is The New EV Benchmark

This isn’t the only 2022 EV6 to be hit with a hefty markup. A look on Autotrader shows that the Mark KIA dealership in Scottsdale, Arizona has a pair of EV6 GT-Line models for sale, both with asking prices exceeding the $80,000 mark. The first is a Glacier White example with green leather seats that carries an $80,926 asking price while the second is a Steel Matte Gray model with black leather seats and an $80,925 asking price.

Speaking with Motor1, a spokesperson from Kia said that the company encourages its dealerships to price their vehicles fairly.

“Dealers are independent businesses, but we do ask them to price fairly and consider customer satisfaction throughout the purchase process,” the spokesperson said.

While paying upwards of $80,000 for an electric Kia is a lot of money, we recently concluded that the EV6 is the new benchmark in its segment of the EV market. We’re confident that the forthcoming GT variant will be even better.
