OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has possibly started teasing an Android smartphone made by his new company Nothing.

Pei has put out a series of cryptic tweets making statements like “Back on Android” and “Android 12 is nice.” Moreover, the official Android and Snapdragon Twitter accounts have also replied to Pei’s tweet, suggesting a three-way partnership — a very likely recipe for an Android smartphone.

A smartphone would be a first for London-based Nothing, which has just one product — the Nothing Ear 1 — in its kitty till now. Of course, it won’t be a first for Pei, who headed OnePlus for over seven years before establishing Nothing in 2020.

There has been just one rumor about a Nothing smartphone to date, so there’s no way of knowing what the company is up to. Frequent tipster Mukul Sharma and 91mobiles previously reported that Nothing will indeed launch a smartphone in early 2022. However, the duo didn’t dish out any more details regarding the apparent phone

Pei had also put out another suggestive tweet a few days back, asking his followers about their favorite Android-based OS. It’s possible Nothing is working on its own Android skin for its first phone or looking to adopt one that’s already out there.

Anyhow, it’s too early to speculate anything about a Nothing phone. We literally know nothing about it. If the company is indeed readying an Android handset, it would be interesting to see the learnings it adopts from Pei’s previous experience at OnePlus.
