Pokemon Sword and Shield are offering shiny Galarian legendaries as rewards for its March and April International Challenges.

The Pokemon Company

Pokemon Sword and Shield have two more online competitions slated for March and April, and players will get a special reward for participating. Everyone who takes part in the events will receive shiny versions of Galarian Zapdos and Galarian Moltres, making this the only way to get these two shiny legendary Pokemon in the games. Here’s when the competitions take place and how to sign up for them.

When are the March and April International Challenges?

Shiny Galarian Zapdos will be the reward for the March International Challenge. Players can register for that event from Feb. 24 to Mar. 10, while the competition itself will take place Mar. 11-13.

Shiny Galarian Moltres, meanwhile, will be the reward for the April International Challenge. Registration will run from Mar. 31 to April 14, with the competition following from April 15-17. You’ll only receive the legendary Pokemon if you take part in at least three battles during each online competition.

How to sign up for the International Challenges

To register for the online competitions, fire up your copy of Pokemon Sword or Shield during the entry period and follow these steps:

  1. Press X to open the menu
  2. Select VS
  3. Select Battle Stadium
  4. Select Online Competitions
  5. Select Search Official Competitions and join that month’s International Challenge

As mentioned, you must participate in at least three battles during the specified competitions to receive the legendary Pokemon. The monsters will be distributed afterward via the Mystery Gift function. Note that you’ll need to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to take part in online battles.

Pokemon Sword and Shield launched in November 2019 and have been a big commercial success for Nintendo. According to the company’s latest earnings report, the games have collectively sold almost 24 million copies, making them the second-best-selling pair of titles in the series’ history. Two new mainline games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, are slated to launch for Nintendo Switch later this year.
