A 2004 Renault Clio V6 Phase 2 Just Sold For A Record $120,000

A 2004 Renault Clio V6 Phase 2 has just sold for a breathtaking £90,000 (~$120,000), setting a world record in the process.

The Clio V6 is one of the most famous vehicles ever produced by Renault Sport as it threw out the traditional hot hatch rulebook and is powered by a mid-mounted 3.0-liter naturally-aspirated V6. This engine drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

This particular Clio V6 Phase 2 has a number of things going for it that contributed to the record-breaking sales price. For example, it is thought to be one of just 18 examples worldwide equipped with the Complete Leather Pack which was a £3,900 ($5,221) option from the factory. In addition, it has been owned by the same individual for the past 16 years having been previously owned by Renault UK itself.

What’s more, the Collecting Cars listing reveals this Clio V6 Phase 2 was used for promotional purposes as the safety car to support the 2005 Clio Cup series and was piloted up the hillclimb of the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed by ex-F1 racer Patrik Tambay.

Simply owing to their unique shape, all Clio V6 models are eye-catching. However, this one is particularly striking as it is painted in a shade dubbed Acid Yellow that only adorned 21 vehicles from the factory, of which just eight were produced in right-hand drive. Complementing the paint are the original 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

Finally, the aforementioned Complete Leather Pack that this car was optioned with includes Nappa leather door card inserts, a leather engine cover, leather across the gear shifter and handbrake, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Light Grey Alcantara used for the headliner and A-pillars.
