Hyundai Ioniq 5 Named 2022 World Car Of The Year And World Electric Vehicle

A new champion has been crowned as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been named 2022 World Car of the Year.

However, that’s just the start as the model also won World Car Design of the Year as well as the title of World Electric Vehicle of the Year.

That’s an impressive accomplishment and it means the Ioniq 5 beat out fellow finalists that included the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6 in the World Car of the Year category.  The model also topped the Audi e-tron GT and the Mercedes EQS in the battle to be named World Electric Vehicle of the Year.

The other winners

Getting back to the Germans, they didn’t lose entirely as the Audi e-tron GT was named World Performance Car. Likewise, the Mercedes EQS won the title of 2022 World Luxury Car. The e-tron GT snagged the award over the BMW M3/M4 and Toyota GR86/Subaru BRZ, while the EQS bested the BMW iX and Genesis GV70.

Last but not least, the Toyota Yaris Cross was named World Urban Car. While the model isn’t sold in the United States, neither was either of the other two finalists which included the Opel Mokka and Volkswagen Taigun.
