Ram Appears To Be Working On A Rugged Pickup Inspired By The Rebel OTG Concept

If you’ve forgotten about the Ram 1500 Rebel OTG (Off The Grid) concept, you’d be forgiven as the overlanding pickup was introduced at SEMA in 2019.

However, it’s back in the news as the company has patented a truck that closely resembles the original concept.

Noticed by Car & Driver, the design patent shows a rugged pickup with a heavy duty front bumper that features auxiliary lights, a winch, and recovery points. Those aren’t the only changes as the truck has also been equipped with extended fender flares, a snorkel, and what appears to be a ventilated hood. We can also see a split tailgate as well as the outline of side steps or rock sliders.

There doesn’t appear to be any other changes, but the Ram 1500 Rebel OTG concept was equipped with a two-inch lift kit and beadlock wheels wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear tires. The truck was also outfitted with a 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine, a larger grille, and a unique rear bumper which helped to improve the model’s departure angle.

While it remains unclear how many of those upgrades will carryover to the apparent production model, we doubt the concept’s collapsible rooftop tent, solar panel set, and pull-out kitchen will make the jump.

Little else is known about the truck at this point, but the magazine speculates that it might be offered as a Mopar special edition. That remains to be seen, but Mopar editions have become an annual tradition and last year’s model was a Dodge Durango with a 1 inch (25 mm) lowering kit, blue Brembo brake calipers, and a sportier interior with leather and suede seats.
