If you’re in the market for a high-performance wagon but aren’t particularly fond of the Audi RS4 Avant and Mercedes-AMG C63 S Estate, there will soon be a new option: the first-ever BMW M3 Touring.
Details regarding the launch of the M3 Touring have not yet been announced. However, that hasn’t prevented BMW from running a comprehensive promotional campaign for the car, releasing a new clip that highlights some of the most important upgrades made to the 3-Series Touring.
During the video, the head of driving dynamics for BMW M, Klaus Huber, gives us a look at the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter S58 straight-six of the M3 Touring, expected to pump out the same 503 hp as the existing M3 Competition and M4 Competition. He adds that this engine is coupled to the automaker’s xDrive all-wheel drive system and not a rear-wheel drive setup that is available with the entry-level M3 sedan.

Further parts have been taken from the sedan. This includes the front axle which necessitated BMW to widen the front fenders and install the same wheels and tires as the M3 sedan. The prototype featured is also rocking a set of carbon ceramic brakes to provide it with the best possible stopping power. Another element of the car discussed by Huber is the roof-mounted lip spoiler designed to aid in aerodynamics and boost downforce.
Huber notes that BMW M also spent a lot of time ensuring it had strengthened the rear of the M3 Touring. Rather than placing a strut bar between the two suspension towers and thus impeding cargo capacity, there is a new stiffener underneath the car that comes complete with a V-shaped strut. The car also features a completely new spring, damper, and anti-roll bar setup.
The latter half of the clip shows it being put through its paces on the road and includes some dramatic rolling shots of the M3 Touring.
