Nissan and Nismo revealed a specially prepared Nissan Z racecar which will take part in the Fuji 24 Hour Race, and help the Japanese carmaker explore the possibility of racing the new Z in different motorsport categories.
The new racecar is based on the production-spec Nissan Z with various modifications making it more suitable for track use. As expected, the racing version of the new Z gets a set of eight-spoke Rays alloy wheels shod in slicks, which hide a set of beefier Brembo brakes behind them. Other changes include a vented bonnet, a front tow hook, discreet black fender extensions, a racing-style fuel cap, and a large rear wing. We can also see the stripped-out interior featuring a full roll cage and a Sabelt bucket seat for the driver.

We don’t have information on any upgrades to the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which in production form produces 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque.
Getting involved with racing is always a good opportunity for a brand to develop future models that are more capable and faster around the track. The new racing version of the Nissan Z opens the door for a future Nismo variant, offering more power, a more aggressive aero kit, and a track-focused chassis setup.
Nissan said it will announce more details about the project at a later date. The automaker will participate in the ST-Q class of the Super Taikyu Series with at least two vehicles, including one entry with the Max Racing team. The second round of the championship – the NAPAC Fuji SUPER TEC 24 Hour Race – will take place at the Fuji Speedway on June 4 and 5, 2022.
