We’re Driving The 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate And The AT4X, Anything You Want To Know?

This week we’re driving both the new 2022 Sierra Denali Ultimate and the Sierra AT4X. Each truck is meant to set a new higher bar for how luxurious and how capable a pickup can be. So we want to know what you’re wondering about each one.

What happens when the shine has worn off of the word Denali? Well, you add another word, and for GMC (and Lamborghini) that word is Ultimate. The GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate is intended to be the new pinnacle of the pickup truck range and the most luxurious of its kind to ever come out of General Motors. It even has a special Denali grille.

Under the hood though it has the same 6.2-liter V8 that other GM products have used for years. Of course, that’s in part because it’s pretty good. With 420-horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, it’s properly robust for a vehicle of this size and weight. Having driven quite a few vehicles with this same engine I can assure you, it never leaves you feeling underpowered.

In addition to the Denali Ultimate, GMC is going to put us in the new Sierra AT4X which is meant to be more Xtreme than the regular AT4. It uses the same powertrain as the Denali Ultimate but adds a two-speed transfer case for better off-road performance.

In addition, the AT4X will come with multiple drive modes for when the road runs out too. GMC has even added a one-pedal driving mode and e-lockers on each axle. To hear the brand tell it, this truck should have no problem getting unstuck from slippery terrain.

How does GMC intend to blend off-road ruggedness with on-road comfort? Well, they’re thinking of that, something demonstrated by some of the materials used within the truck. Instead of super-soft leather or another material that would be damaged easily, they’ve coated some surfaces to resist water and other damage.

But there’s a lot that we’re still interested to figure out. How will it actually drive on the road? Is SuperCruise as good as GM makes it out to be? Can we get the AT4X stuck if we really try? Let us know what you’re wondering below!
