Audi RS4 And RS5 Spiced Up With New Competition Packages For US And Europe

Audi RS4 And RS5 Spiced Up With New Competition Packages For US And Europe

Audi announced the new Competition and Competition Plus packages for the RS4 Avant, the RS5 Coupé, and the RS5 Sportback, improving their driving dynamics and performance while adding minor visual treats.

In Europe, customers will be offered Audi’s Competition and Competition Plus packages in the RS4 Avant, RS5 Coupe and Sportback models, while in the US, the German carmaker will offer the upgraded Competition package (no “plus” here) for the RS5 Coupe and Sportback models.

The new option includes manually adjustable RS sport suspension pro coilovers that lower the ride height by 10 mm (0.4 inches) from the factory, giving customers the option to go an extra 10 mm lower for a total drop of 20 mm (0.8 inches) compared to the stock RS4 and RS5 models. The new suspension comes with a higher spring rate, three-way adjustable dampers, and stiffer stabilizers. Although this suspension setup sounds more track-focused than your typical Audi, the company claims it strikes a fine balance between comfort and performance.

Driving dynamics also benefit from the addition of the quattro sport differential, updated software for the automatic transmission and the ECU, retuned ABS, and a fixed steering ratio of 1:13.1. The RS ceramic brake system reduces braking distance by 2 m (78.7 inches) in the 100-0 km (60-0 mph) test, while the fitment of Pirelli Corsa P Zero tires contributes to higher grip levels and better handling. Finally, the RS sport exhaust system plus with matte black quad tailpipes delivers a more evocative sound, combined with the reduced insulation between the cabin and the engine compartment.

Despite the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 producing the same 444 hp (331 kW / 450 PS) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque as the standard RS4/RS5 models, the performance figures have been improved. When fitted with the Competition Plus pack, the RS4 Avant achieves a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds (-0.2 seconds) while the RS5 Coupé and Sportback need 3.8 seconds (-0.1 seconds) for the same sprint. In addition, all competition packages increase the top speed to 290 km/h (180 mph) by tweaking the limiter.

Visually, the most striking change is the 20-inch milled alloy wheels which are optionally available in Phantom Black. Other than that, the packages bring a glossy black finish on the badges, standard Matrix LED headlights, and the Carbon Matte Optics Package (mirror caps, front blade, side flaps, side sill extensions, rear diffuser trim in Carbon matte). Inside, we find Piano Black accents on the sides of the RS sport seats which can get optional Dinamica / Pearl Nappa upholstery.

In Europe, the competition package costs €7,875 ($8,283) while the competition plus package will set you back €11,875 ($12,495).

In the US, Audi is only offering a single competition package which costs $16,100 and will be available to order from June 2022. The cost is additional to the $75,900 MSRP of the RS5 Coupé, or the $76,200 of the RS5 Sportback since the RS4 Avant is not available in the US.
