Turkey’s Togg Electric SUV Spied Testing In Production Form

Turkey’s economy might be in a bad shape but this didn’t stop the development of the TOGG-branded vehicles. A camouflaged prototype of the electric SUV was caught testing on public roads by our spy photographers, showing an evolved design compared to the concept from 2019.

For those not familiar with the name, Togg is an automotive startup with the goal of developing and producing Turkey’s first indigenous EVs. The first production model will be the pictured SUV coming before the end of 2022.

The camouflaged prototype looks very similar to the concept car, but a closer look reveals a number of changes. The headlights are slightly larger, the bonnet shut-lines have moved backward, the wheels are smaller in diameter, the door handles are conventional, while the proportions appear to be altered with a shorter rear end.

Still, the overall design is recognizable as an evolution of the concept and appears to be closer to production. We guess the changes were necessary to accommodate the EV-dedicated platform, the electric motors, and the battery pack while complying with regulations. Last year, Togg published photos of the SUV’s body-in-white from the factory floor, showing the same design as the camouflaged prototypes.

Togg has previously announced the targeted specs for the SUV which will be available in two different power outputs – a single-motor RWD with 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS) and a 500 km (310 miles) range, and a dual-motor AWD with 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) and a 400 km (186 miles) range. The battery packs will be made in-house in collaboration with the Chinese brand Farasis. There will also be Level 2 autonomous capability set to grow to Level 3 via over-the-air updates, and 5G connectivity.

The SUV will be followed by more models sharing the same EV-dedicated architecture, including a sedan, a hatchback, and a minivan. All of them will be produced in the Gemlik district of northwestern Bursa province in Turkey,
