U-Haul Seemingly Birthing An SUV Turned Out To Be A Very Bad Idea For Its Driver

We all want to get a good deal and a dollar isn’t going nearly as far as it did a year ago but trying to haul a car halfway inside of a U-Haul probably isn’t the best solution. Amazingly, the person who came up with the idea and then attempted to execute it made some even worse decisions that day. The whole situation ended up with the driver, the SUV, and the U-Haul itself all ending up in police custody.

As pretty much everyone knows, U-Haul does rent car haulers and even cheaper car dollies. With that in mind, it’s tough to pinpoint exactly what the reasoning was behind using this 10′ box truck to try and move what looks like an Isuzu Rodeo.

Perhaps it was simply an attempt at getting the absolute most out of this rental. Maybe it was just a wild idea that came at the end of a string of bad choices. What we do know is that the driver was ticketed for failing to secure the load with safety chains. The grand total was just $139.

Of course, that’s not exactly where the trouble stopped because the driver had their license suspended and both the U-Haul and the Rodeo were impounded. Oh, and the U-Haul box truck itself was long overdue according to the Tri-City Herald. They also found that evidently, the vehicle had been driving around the area for at least a day or two before police pulled it over.

So let’s break this down. This person rented a U-Haul, kept it well past the return date, then loaded up a vehicle into it unsafely and proceeded to drive around town until he was pulled over. Despite how wild that sounds, many commenters on Twitter debated the technical legality of the hauling method.

Based on the ticket issued with regard to safety chains it almost sounds like that would’ve made it legal by the letter of the law. We’ve reached out to the Trooper who initially posted the vehicle on Twitter and will update this post if we hear back.
