Tesla OTA Software Update Adds Media Profiles, Better Range Calculation

Tesla is rolling out its latest 2022.16.0.2 over-the-air software update, with some new features and a few improved ones.

New Media Player Accounts can now be linked to driver profiles, allowing users to automatically access their personal Spotify account when they are in the driver’s seat, and for quick changes when someone else is driving.

The most impressive new addition is Navigation Energy Prediction, which can more accurately predict the remaining range of the vehicle by analyzing the forecasted weather. According to the release notes:

“Energy prediction for your route has been improved by incorporating forecasted crosswind, headwind, humidity, and ambient temperature when using online navigation.”

The technology has been tested for a while, but this is the first time that it’s been implemented for a wider audience of owners. Hopefully, it does well to quell driver’s range anxiety, along with a new function that shows wait times at Superchargers along a given route and can change the navigation accordingly.

A small but important update for some, the TeslaMic is the recipient of improved performance to reduce latency while using Caraoke.

Finally, as discovered by Teslascope, the update introduces the option for Blended Brakes, which uses regular braking in combination with regenerative braking in order to offer a more consistent deceleration. The system can also take over when the battery level or temperature limits regenerative braking ability.
