Audi Can’t Hide The 2024 A4 Avant’s Toned Shoulders Under Camouflage

The snow may have melted in the Alps but Audi continues right on testing its upcoming vehicles high in the mountains. The latest shots snapped by our spy photographers are of the A4 Avant.

Last seen in chillier, greyer climes, the upcoming model is seen here looking quite handsome, even under camouflage. Although much of its design remains hidden, the wealth of angles here and the light do reveal that the new model will have muscular shoulders, even as a practical wagon, which gives us plenty of hope for it.

Elsewhere, the A4 Avant looks like it will be less encumbered by fussy design lines and will instead rely on the interplay of convex and concave shapes in order to create visual intrigue, as our talented renderer, Josh Byrnes pointed out in his analysis of what we can see of the design so far.

Expected to be the last generation of A4 to use internal combustion engines, the next-generation Audi A4 will ride on a modified version of the MLB platform, on which the current model also sits.

It is, however, expected to get an updated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that will make use of a mild-hybrid 48-volt system. A plug-in hybrid version is also expected, which will likely be closely related to the powertrain in the Q5 PHEV. Reports indicate that the high-performance RS4 will also be electrified, making use of a plug-in hybrid powertrain making more than the current RS4’s 444 hp (331 kW/450 PS) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque.

An all-electric electric RS4 is also rumored to be joining the lineup, which may make as much as 469 hp (350 kW/475 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. Based on the all-electric PPE platform that was co-developed with Porsche, a less intense (likely longer range) version is also anticipated.

We expect the new A4 sometime next year as a 2024MY.
