This Is How Lucid Managed To Maximize Space In The Air

Building a car manufacturer from the ground up and launching a production vehicle that is both high-quality and appealing, is not easy. As such, Lucid does deserve a lot of credit for doing this, even though its luxurious Air sedan is the subject of a new recall.

While the Lucid Air has made most of its headlines due to the performance it offers, its class-leading range, and its luxurious interior, the car manufacturer is particularly proud of how it managed to package the sedan. A new video details Lucid’s ‘Space Concept’ in great detail.

The video is presented by Lucid founder and chief executive Peter Rawlinson who explains how the Air is packaged and how Lucid was able to make the interior so spacious without developing a car that looked like a massive limousine.

In creating the Air, Rawlinson says that Lucid spent a considerable amount of time ensuring the cabin stretched as far forward as possible, placing a particular emphasis on getting the driver’s and front passenger’s feet as close to the front wheels as possible. Allowing Lucid to achieve this is the Air’s advanced platform and its innovative front crash structure. The lack of an engine and transmission also helps. At the same time, Lucid also pushed the H-point of rear-seat passengers back as far as possible. The result is that someone who is 6’6” can sit at the front and someone 6’7” can sit at the rear, back to back without any issues.

During the clip, Rawlinson also explains the complex front assembly of the Lucid Air. The bumper is made primarily from lightweight aluminum and molded black plastic and houses a host of radars, cameras, and a 120-degree solid state LiDAR. The bumper also includes two vortex ducts that flow air into the two front radiators.
