Would You Prefer A BMW M4 Shooting Brake Over The M3 Touring?

BMW’s celebrations of the M division’s 50th anniversary show no signs of abating and have already led to the launch of various limited-edition models, most notably the M4 CSL and soon, the M3 Touring. We would also love to see BMW launch a Touring/Shooting Brake version of the M4, similar to what these renderings show.

This eye-catching model has been imagined by Sugar Design and morphs the M4 into a model that could be more practical while still retaining the same sleek design as the Coupe that we’re all familiar with.

When viewed from the front, the M4 Touring / Shooting Brake looks largely identical to the Coupe, meaning it retains the familiar front grille, aggressively-shaped hood, and pronounced black air intakes. The obvious design changes then start from the sides where the roofline has been extended and the rear side windows have grown in size.

To make the car look as sleek as possible, Sugar Design has removed the B-pillar, leaving the car with nothing but a sleek A-pillar that morphs into the thick C-pillar. Speaking of the C-pillar, it also features a small BMW M 50th anniversary badge.

Completing the transformation from Coupe to Shooting Brake is a redesigned rear window, a subtle roof-mounted lip spoiler, and a revised tailgate.

Given how long it took BMW to finally bite the bullet and launch a Touring version of the M3 sedan, it is very unlikely that a variant of the M4 anything like this will ever hit the market. While that’s a shame, we wouldn’t put it past a particularly skilled coachbuilder from making a car like this a reality.
