TL;DR

  • A new Google device has been submitted to the FCC for approval.
  • The new device bears a Google-style ID and does not appear to have a screen.
  • The device only has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, making a Chromecast the most obvious option.

A new device has appeared at the FCC, one that seems to be made by Google and could be a new Chromecast model.

Despite companies’ best attempts to keep new designs secret, they still have to submit them to the FCC for regulatory approval. According to Droid-Life, one such device is at the FCC with an ID of A4RG454V. The G454V tag is consistent with other Google devices, making it very likely the search giant is behind the new gadget. Interestingly, the FCC label is on the bottom of the device, which would seem to preclude it having any kind of display.

Another point that would support the device not being a phone or tablet is the fact that it does not appear to have any kind of cellular connectivity. Instead, the device is limited to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The FCC’s notes mention a test connection between the device and earphones, as well as a controller.

When taken together, all of these details would seem to indicate that Google is working on another Chromecast or similar device.
