The all-electric Cadillac Celestiq will be manufactured at GM’s Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan.
This facility has been the center of GM’s engineering and design efforts since May 1956 and the Celestiq will be the first production vehicle built at the site. This will be achieved through an $81 million investment in the site that will be used to purchase and install the equipment required to build the EV by hand.
“As Cadillac’s future flagship sedan, CELESTIQ signifies a new, resurgent era for the brand,” GM president Mark Reuss said. “Each one will be hand-built by an amazing team of craftspeople on our historic Technical Center campus, and today’s investment announcement emphasizes our commitment to delivering a world-class Cadillac with nothing but the best in craftsmanship, design, engineering and technology.”

The Celestiq will also benefit from GM’s Additive Industrialization Center located on the Global Technical Center campus where 3D-printed parts will be made. It will feature more 3D-printed parts than any other GM vehicle produced to date, including both structural and cosmetic parts made from polymer and metal. Underpinning the Celestiq will be GM’s Ultium Platform.
Two key features of the new Cadillac will be its use of a four-quadrant, suspended-particle-device smart glass roof that will allow each occupant to set their own level of roof transparency. The driver and front-seat passenger will also be able to “enjoy a pillar-to-pillar freeform display with active privacy to help mitigate driver distraction.”
“This investment is a great example of our commitment to GM’s EV transformation as we apply our manufacturing expertise to a one-of-a-kind, ultra-luxury vehicle for the Cadillac brand,” added GM’s executive vice president of Global Manufacturing and Sustainability Gerald Johnson. “The advanced manufacturing technology and tools we are utilizing on CELESTIQ will help our team deliver the highest quality vehicles to our customers.”
Cadillac will preview the Celestiq with the release of a show car in late July.
