Watch A 650 HP BMW M3 Hit 197 MPH With Top Speed Limiter Removed

BMW’s official claim is that the current M3 can hit 180 mph (290 km/h) with the top speed limiter removed or 155 mph (250 km/h) with the limiter still in place. However, the tuned example in this video actually has a lot more performance up its sleeve.

The man behind the AutoTopNL channel on YouTube is the proud owner of a G80 M3 equipped with the available six-speed manual transmission and while he didn’t opt for the Competition variant, he has tuned the ECU, made a number of performance modifications to it, and recently had the top speed limiter removed.

In addition, this M3 benefits from 200-cell downpipes, a new catback exhaust, a carbon fiber air intake, and the aforementioned ECU tune. It is pumping out approximately 650 hp and a touch under 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, significant gains over the standard 473 hp and 405 lb-ft (550 Nm).

Eager to see how fast the car is, he headed onto the German Autobahn and pushed the car all the way through to a top speed of 317 km/h (197 mph) as indicated on the speedometer. That speed translated to 312 km/h (194 mph) on his GPS timing device, a seriously impressive figure and not far off hitting the fabled 200 mph (322 km/h) mark.

It is not just the car’s top speed that has been boosted by its modifications. In-gear acceleration is vastly improved as well and during one test, the car sprinted from 100 km/h (62 mph) to 200 km/h (124 mph) in just 7.2 seconds.
