Contract manufacturer Valmet Automotive will soon be tasked with the job of building the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door after reaching a deal with the German carmaker.
The partnership will see Valmet start production of the AMG GT 4-Door at its Uusikaupunki, Finland plant in the second half of 2023. It will build both combustion-powered and hybrid variants of the high-performance sedan.
To gear up for the start of production, Valmet Automotive has started readying the plant and will make changes to its body shop. It will also establish an assembly line dedicated for the AMG GT 4-Door while also revising its paint shop process to allow “several special coatings” to be offered for the car.

Valmet says approximately 200 people will handle production of the AMG, and none will be new employees.
“Manufacturing an AMG is an exceptionally convincing demonstration of Valmet Automotive’s capabilities,” Valmet Automotive’s SVP of Manufacturing, Pasi Rannus, said in a statement. “With the AMG, we are making vehicles that require special skills and top-of-the-line quality. And it’s great to be back manufacturing sports cars.”
Valmet currently handles production of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class (since 2013) and has been building the GLC since January 2017.
Mercedes-Benz unveiled a series of minor tweaks to the 2023 AMG GT 4-Door model back in March. Alterations start at the front end where the outer front air intakes are slightly wider than before and incorporate three vertical fins, rather than the horizontal fins of pre-facelift models.
No powertrain modifications have been made. As such, both the GT 63 and GT 63 S variants feature a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 pumping out 575 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) in the standard model and 630 hp and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) in the GT 63 S.
