Singapore Grand Prix Circuit To Be Playable Map In Next Call Of Duty Game

Infinity Ward, the studio behind the upcoming “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II” video game, announced on Sunday that the Marina Bay Grand Prix circuit will be featured in the game.

In a tweet, the studio revealed that the Formula 1 track is the inspiration for a “6v6 map, located in an urban race circuit” that will be playable in the multiplayer open beta. That trial will be launched on the PlayStation for early-access pre-orders on September 16-17. It will also be in the full game, which launches on October 28.

“The Modern Warfare II Beta is set to feature a robust multiplayer experience going beyond the Core 6v6 experience with a variety of meticulously designed maps of various sizes, and an equally impressive set of Modes, Progression experiences, and other aspects that will be more thoroughly revealed at Call of Duty: Next,” Infinity Ward wrote in a statement.

A preview of the map shared by the company shows footage of the racetrack’s infield, where the team trailers park, the pit lane where a fire can be seen raging, and the track, where race cars can be seen driving. The Marina Bay Sands tower, from whose rooftop “SkyPark” the race can be viewed, can also be seen burning in the background.

Although the cars featured in the short clip are open wheel racers, and one appears to look like a Red Bull F1 car, the branding and the design are distinctly generic, suggesting that the real F1 teams won’t be participating in this battlefield version of the track.

A street circuit that sees F1 cars racing through Singapore‘s downtown core, the first Grand Prix at the venue was held in 2008. It’s 5.063 km (3.14 miles) long and is made up of 23 corners.

Formula 1 and Call of Duty have intersected before. In 2016, Sir Lewis Hamilton was included in “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” as a non-playable character.
