The 2022 Lexus RX had been around for the better part of a decade so it was bound to get a very big update. That update comes in the form of the all-new 2023 RX. Along with more aggressive styling that fits into the Lexus family better, the crossover is getting new powertrains and a whole new interior. We’re about to spend a few days with it. What would you like to know about the latest generation of the new RX?
Despite its age, the RX hasn’t really struggled in the marketplace. The 2022 model year started in the mid $40,000 range and we expect the new car to be a closer to $50,000 but Lexus has yet to announce pricing. What we do know is what it looks like and what it’ll be powered by.
Three different powertrains will be available at launch. They start with the RX350 which uses a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 275 hp (205 kW) and 317 lb-ft (429 Nm) of torque. It sends that power to the front wheels or all four (depending on trim) through an eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s the only version of the RX without some sort of electrification.

Above that trim will be the RX350h. It’s only available with AWD and develops 246 hp (183 kW) and 233 lb-ft (315 Nm) of torque. This is the only RX to use a continuously variable transmission. The RX500 also comes standard with AWD but makes a total of 366 hp (272 kW) and 406 lb-ft (549 Nm) of torque. Interestingly enough, it transmits power through a six-speed automatic transmission.
A plug-in hybrid called the RX450h is also on the way but we’re still waiting on details about exactly when it will arrive, among other things. All powertrains will have a number of trim levels available. For example, the RX350 and the RX350h will be available in Base, Premium, Premium +, Luxury, and F Sport Handling trims. The RX500 will only be available in the F Sport trim level.
We also know that the inside of the RX will be more luxurious than any generation before. It’ll get the updated infotainment system and materials from the UX crossover along with other nice touches like ambient interior lighting, open-pore wood, and more.
