MG’s New Mulan Triumph Edition Is An Electric Hot Hatch With A Shocking 449 HP

This is the MG Mulan Triumph Edition, a high-performance version of the all-electric hatchback that you may best know as the MG4.

In markets outside of China, the MG4 is available with either a rear electric motor delivering 168 hp and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque or an electric motor with 200 hp and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm). The hatch’s new flagship variant, however, which has so far only been confirmed for the Chinese and (likely) the UK, is adding a lot more power into the mix.

Slotted beneath the skin of the MG Mulan Triumph Edition is a dual-motor powertrain with all-wheel drive and a combined 449 hp and 442 lbft (600 Nm) of torque, which are quite remarkable figures for a vehicle in this class. MG says it will hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds while the 64 kWh ternary lithium battery pack will give it up to 285 miles (460 km) of range under the Chinese testing procedure.

It’s not just straight-line performance where the Mulan Triumph Edition should excel. MG notes that it has equipped the hot hatch with torque vectoring, and beefed-up brakes with orange calipers, although further specifics about these new brakes aren’t known. A set of 18-inch wheels have also been slotted on and are wrapped in 235/45 Bridgestone tires at all four corners.

A handful of changes have also been made to the car’s interior. The most notable upgrade is the standard fitment of Alcantara sports seats with six-way electric adjustment and two-way lumbar support. An Alcantara steering wheel is also featured. Other key interior details including a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment display, an air purification system, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system.

Pricing and availability details for the MG Mulan Triumph Edition are not yet known.
