Google Pixel 7 event: What to expect

TL;DR

  • The Google Pixel event is scheduled to go live on October 6 at 10:00 AM ET.
  • We will get to see the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Watch.
  • We could see a variety of other devices as well.

Google’s Pixel 7 event is just around the corner with the show scheduled to kick off on October 6 at 10:00 AM ET. Of course, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be there, but the show will be bigger than just a launch event for the company’s new phones. For example, Google will be showing off its first wearable — the Pixel Watch. We could also be in store for a few surprises as well.

The Mountain View-based company hasn’t exactly been quiet about what could be shown. Plenty of leaks have also surfaced in the last few weeks. Pulling all of this information together, let’s quickly go over everything we expect to see at Google’s conference.

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro

Starting off with the headline of the show, we’re going to get our best official look at the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro since the Google I/O event back in May. During said event, the tech giant gave us our first look at the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in their Snow color scheme. The renders revealed that the camera bar — introduced in the Pixel 6 series — will be sticking around for the Pixel 7 series. However, the camera bar’s glass casing has been replaced with recycled aluminum.

While Google didn’t get into specifics back in May, we expect that the company will give us details about the device’s specs at its upcoming event. Although the firm has yet to officially lay out the details, we have a pretty good idea of what the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are capable of.

Based on what we know, the Pixel 7 series will largely be the same as its predecessor. However, leaks suggest that the selfie shooter on both devices will be upgraded to 11MP. Additionally, the Pixel 7 Pro may swap out the 48MP Sony IMX586 in its telephoto slot for a 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor. But the biggest difference will be the inclusion of Google’s second-generation Tensor chip.

We also have an idea of how much each device will cost you. A leak that surfaced last week revealed that the Pixel 7 will likely sell for $599 while the Pixel 7 Pro will be available for $899. So both models will likely be about the same price as last year. Also, both phones will go up for preorder on the same day as the event.

The Pixel Watch

The Pixel 7 series may be the headliner, but we can’t forget about the highly anticipated Pixel Watch. As mentioned earlier, the Pixel Watch will be Google’s first smartwatch and rumors have been swirling around the device since it was unveiled at Google I/O.

What we know is that the gadget will launch alongside the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. In fact, some people have even begun finding them hiding in retail stores this past week. It’s expected that the Pixel Watch will cost more than a Fitbit. A leak places the cost of the Wi-Fi model being as much as $349.99.

In terms of the design, the smartwatch will have a circular face that helps differentiate it from Apple’s square design. The device will also come with proprietary bands in several different flavors such as mesh, leather, fabric, silicon, and more.

Another thing you can expect to be revealed at the show is the Pixel Watch’s Fitbit integration. Google has said that the Pixel Watch will have deep integration with Fitbit, which makes sense given that Google acquired Fitbit in 2021. It will also be running on an Exynos 9110 chip — released back in 2018 — with Wear OS 3.

Beyond that, other leaks have told us that we could get 32GB of internal storage and the most RAM seen on any device running on Wear OS. However, it could be lacking in the longevity department if rumors are true about a 300mAh battery.

Google Nest Wifi Pro

Now that we got the obvious stuff out of the way, it’s time to dive into products that could make a surprise appearance at the event. One such item that could grace our screens is the new Google Nest Wifi Pro.

According to a prematurely released product page, we know that the device is called the Google Nest Wifi Pro 6E Router. The leak revealed that the smart home product will have Wi-Fi 6E capabilities and a price tag of $199. It was also found that the device will be available in bundles of two and three for $299 and $399 respectively.

Mimicking some of the color schemes of the other Pixel devices, the Google Nest Wifi Pro 6E Router is expected to come in Snow (white), Linen (light brown), Fog (light blue), and Lemongrass (light yellow/green).

It’s not uncommon for companies to show off products that are already available at events like this and we wouldn’t put it past Google to do the same. Why not when you have everyone’s attention? We could see Google throw up some images and spare a minute or two talking about some of its Fitbit wearables. For example, the Fitbit Sense 2 and the Versa 4 recently launched and Google may spend some time putting a spotlight on those devices.

There’s also a possibility that we could hear something about a new Nest doorbell. An APK teardown conducted by 9To5Google, revealed an image of a wired Nest Doorbell believed to be the second generation Nest Doorbell Google mentioned last year.

What are you most excited to see at the event on October 6?
