Jaguar Land Rover aims to train some 29,000 people over the coming three years for its transition to electrification.
The Future Skills Programme will involve more than 10,000 company employees and franchised retailer employees across the UK trained in the skills required for electrification as well as digital and autonomous cars. A further 19,000 employees around the world will be trained with the same skills.
The British car manufacturer says that 80 per cent of its nearly 1,300 franchised retailers offer electric vehicle servicing, so to tackle the skills gap, the majority of servicing technicians will receive electrification training this year. Jaguar Land Rover will also retrain thousands of engineers and production employees to specialize in electrified vehicles as well as vehicles with advanced digital and autonomous technologies.

“Our plans to electrify our product portfolio are running at pace, and we are rapidly scaling up our future skills training programme to ensure we have the right talent to deliver the world’s most desirable modern luxury electric vehicles,” Jaguar Land Rover Industrial Operations executive director Barbara Bergmeier said. “Developing the skilled global workforces needed to design, build and maintain the vehicles of the future is foundational. I’m proud to say we are committing to help plug the electric and digital skills gap with a comprehensive, global training programme, which will power charge electrification both here in the UK and abroad.”
Jaguar Land Rover is currently training more than 9,500 apprentices around the world and plans to hire hundreds more in 2023. The carmaker’s plant employees will also receive training to ensure they can work safely alongside the high voltage systems used by electric vehicles.
