Kia Increases The Price Of The Rio By $360 For 2023

Kia introduced a modest increase to the price of its entry level car, the Rio, for the 2023 model year. An increase in the destination fee, though, conceals the full extent of the price hike.

Before destination, Kia has applied a $16,450 MSRP to the entry-level 2023 Rio, the LX 4-Door Sedan. That’s $300 more than the same car cost last year. According to KBB, though, the destination fee was $995 last year, but Kia says that it now be $1,055, raising the total price of the Rio to $17,505, $360 more than the total charged to customers last year.

That pricing increase extends over the rest of the lineup, with the Rio S 5-Door (hatchback) starting at $17,390, as opposed to the $17,090 it cost last year. All in, buyers are once again being charged $360 more for the 2023 model than the 2022 one.

Despite that modest price increase, Kia admits that the Rio is largely a carryover from last year. The engine remains a 1.6-liter four-cylinder that makes 120 hp (89 kW/122 PS) and 112 lb-ft (152 Nm) of torque.

The car will now be equipped with an oil level sensor that alerts drivers if the oil level dips too low. Like last year, though, the car’s fuel efficiency remains solid at 32 MPG city, 41 MPG highway, and 36 MPG combined.

Electronic stability control, vehicle stability control, and hill-start control are standard on all trims this year. Safety features like forward collision avoidance, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, high beam assist, driver attention warning, and lane departure warning all optional, though, and can be fitted with the S trim’s Tech Package, which costs an extra $1,800, like last year.

Otherwise, just about the only extra buyers can add to the car is the Aurora Black paint, which costs another $195. Even with all the options selected and the slightly inflated price, though, the 2023 Kia Rio sedan tops out at just $20,280, while the Rio 5-Door tops out at just $20,580.
