BMW has been releasing many different “50 Jahre M Edition” models all over the world, but India seems to be getting most of them. The latest example is based on the M8 Competition Coupe flagship, which is by far the most expensive offering of the Bavarian brand in the Indian market.
The special edition is distinguished by the M8 Competition thanks to a series of exterior highlights and even more standard equipment. The color palette includes special shades by BMW Individual called Daytona Beach Blue, Dravit Grey, and Tanzanite Blue, among other colors. Those are combined with the standard M Carbon exterior package (intake garnish, splitter, mirror caps, side gills, rear spoiler, and rear diffuser). A cool set of black-painted 20-inch alloy wheels are contrasting with the red brake calipers. Finally, the anniversary-special emblems with blue, violet, and red accents complete the look.

Inside, we find high-quality Merino leather upholstery in a variety of available shades, plenty of carbon fiber bits, an Alcantara headliner, and a long list of comfort and tech features including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a color head-up display, and the 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Still, there are optional features like the M Carbon bucket seats and the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system.
The special edition doesn’t include any mechanical modifications. This means that the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 produces 616 hp (460 kW / 625 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque just like in the regular M8 Competition. Power is transmitted to all four wheels through an eight-speed M Steptronic auto transmission and the rear-biased M xDrive system. According to BMW, the model can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.2 seconds, although independent tests proved that it’s quicker than that in real life. Interestingly the M Carbon Ceramic Brakes are still part of the optional equipment.
The M8 Competition Coupe 50 Jahre M Edition is already available for purchase for a price of Rs 2.55 crore, which is the equivalent of $313,545. This makes it the most expensive BMW money can buy in India, bringing it close to entry-level exotics from automakers like Lamborghini which usually start slightly above the Rs 3 crore ($370k) mark.
Besides the M8, the “50 Jahre M Edition” range in India includes the M340i xDrive, M4 Competition, 530i M Sport, 630i M Sport, X4 xDrive30i/30d M Sport, and the BMW X7 xDrive40i M Sport as you can see in the family shot that is included in the gallery below. Three more special editions are expected to debut in India before the end of 2022, completing a 10-member lineup.
