Discover A Drifting Champ’s Infamous Toyota 2JZ-Powered E92 BMW M3 With Over 900-HP

If you’re familiar with the drifting scene, chances are you’ve heard of the name James Deane and are familiar with his wild E92-generation BMW M3.

The car frequents drifting events and has also become a staple of the Goodwood Festival of Speed in recent years. While the standard E92 M3 is renowned for its naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V8, Deane has ditched this engine in favor of a Toyota-sourced 2JZ 3.0-liter six-cylinder.

This is no standard 2JZ either. Whereas the engine was originally equipped with a pair of turbochargers, it now has just a single large turbocharger and has been fully built with a host of new internal parts. It is also rocking a 100-shot of nitrous and pumps out in excess of 900 hp while revving through to 9,000 rpm.

The nitrous system is particularly noteworthy. Whereas most people may associate nitrous with Fast & Furious where it can be deployed when holding down a button, Deane’s M3 automatically deploys the nitrous when he is driving at more than 85 per cent throttle and in between 3,500 and 8,500 rpm, helping to combat the turbo lag and ensuring that the engine and its power remain extremely responsive.

The car’s braking system has also been thoroughly upgraded and there are now two calipers at each rear corner with one of them used for the brake pedal and the other used exclusively for the handbrake. The car is also quite light thanks to the use of strong but flexible carbon-Kevlar body panels.
