Lamborghini Urus Plug-In Hybrid Spied Testing With New Updates

Lamborghini is preparing the Urus for its first update and, with that, it will bring a new plug-in hybrid version of the popular SUV to market. New photos of the vehicle taken by our trusty spy photographers reveal that the updates will be significant.

While, of course, the Urus will remain very familiar following its update, changes to the front bumper and the headlights can be seen poking through the camouflage. It’s hard to glean too much information from what we see, but Lamborghini certainly seems to be interested in making some noticeable changes up front.

At the rear, meanwhile, the Urus seen testing here is covered in a lot of camouflage. In fact, our spy photographers describe this as an unusual amount of cammo for an update. This raises the possibility that Lamborghini is also making meaningful updates at the rear end.

We’ll have to wait a little longer before we know exactly how extensive and how successful these updates are, but Lamborghini doesn’t appear to be phoning this one in. Which makes sense, because the Urus is its biggest seller.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a while before we know what’s powering this model, which features hybrid warning stickers and a charging port, but rumors suggest it could be pretty spicy.

Reports indicate that the Urus PHEV will share a drivetrain with the Porsche Cayenne and Panamera plug-ins. That would mean a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and electric motors that in the Porsche models makes a combined 670 horsepower. Rumors also suggest that a range topping version will pump out around 808 hp (603 kW/820 PS).

Lamborghini has not yet committed to a date for unveiling the Urus Hybrid or the SUV’s update more generally, but it could arrive in 2023.
