The Isuzu MU-X might not be as widely available as some of the brand’s fans might have wanted but it is the vehicle of choice for those who love the D-Max but want the extra practicality of an SUV. As with the sibling pickup, there are plenty of tuning options for the MU-X, making it more capable off the beaten track, like the pictured metal bumpers from Hamer.

Hamer4x4’s new King Series bumper makes the SUV look quite different from the stock model. It is made of 3 mm thick steel and sports a matt black powder-coated finish, however, it can be optionally painted to match the body color.

The four circular LED units integrate fog lights, indicators, daytime running lights, and position lights. It is shorter than the stock bumper improving the approach angle of the SUV. Despite the angular surfacing, it supports all factory sensors, it is air-bag compliant, and winch compatible.

Browsing through Hamer’s offerings, we found an even more extreme version of the bumper. This one has an additional bullbar, protecting the headlights and the grille on low-speed collisions that can easily occur during more demanding off-roading. Besides the Isuzu MU-X and D-Max models, Hamer’s off-road bumpers are also compatible with a wide range of pickups including the Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger.

Depending on the variant and the market, the cost for such a bumper ranges between $800 and $2.5k.

The second-gen Isuzu MU-X was introduced in 2020 based on the ladder-frame chassis of the third-gen D-Max. The SUV is available with either a 1.9-liter turbodiesel producing 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) or a 3.0-liter turbodiesel producing 187 hp (140 kW / 190 PS). Power is transmitted to all four wheels through a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

The MU-X is available in several markets including Australia, Thailand, The Philipines, Indonesia, and South Africa. Direct rivals include other truck-based SUVs including the Ford Everest, the Toyota Fortuner, and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
