RAM Expands Australian Facility To Convert 20,000 Trucks Annually

Ram Trucks continues to grow its footprint in Australia and is expanding its Melbourne Manufacturing Facility (MMF) where vehicles are converted from left- to right-hand drive.

No less than 18,019 vehicles have been remanufactured at the facility for the Australian and New Zealand markets as of the end of September, with some 17,115 sold over the same period. September proved to be particularly fruitful for Ram Trucks Australia as 604 vehicles were sold, a 45 per cent increase over the same month last year.

The expanded manufacturing facility now has two separate lines for consumer-oriented models and a separate line for heavy duty models. All three lies run 24/7 and the site is capable of producing 20,000 vehicles per year. The operation has grown so significantly in recent years that it employs 641 locals, making Ram Trucks Australia the biggest vehicle manufacturer in the country.

The head of Ram International, Rob Graczyk, recently visited the Melbourne Manufacturing Facility.

“Australia is a super important market for us outside of North America, and the growth that we’ve seen here over the last few years has been phenomenal,” Grazyk said in a statement. “With the expansion of our plant this growth will continue. It’s incredible what the team has done at RAM Trucks Australia, Ateco Group and MMF. Outside of the US, we sell more full-size pick-up trucks than Ford and GM combined, and Australia representing a market share of more than 70%, is a big contributor of that.”

Ram Trucks Australia is the world’s only authorized manufacturer of right-hand drive Ram models and currently sells the 1500 Express Crew and Warlock, the 1500 Laramie and 1500 Limited, as well as the Heavy Duty 2500 Laramie and Heavy Duty 3500 Laramie. The potent Ram 1500 TRX also recently landed Down Under.
