With so many streaming services now competing for our attention, it can be hard to keep track of which shows are worth checking out. Or even just what the most popular streaming shows are in any given month. That’s why we’re breaking down some of the biggest streaming titles of October to help you get caught up.
Check out: The best original streaming shows on every platform
Sites like Reelgood and Nielsen track streaming viewership from week to week. We can also see Netflix‘s own top 10 titles at any given time. While it’s hard to aggregate all of this information precisely, some titles recur, and we can paint a picture of the bigger titles that emerge (or continue to dominate) throughout the month.
So, based on all of that, here is Android Authority‘s own list of the top 10 most popular streaming shows from October, in no particular order. Read on if you want to stay on top of all the titles everyone’s been binging.
Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story
Despite (or because of) plenty of controversy, Netflix’s Dahmer miniseries occupied the streamer’s number-one spot for weeks. Evan Peters, Richard Jenkins, and Niecy Nash star in this ripped-from-the-headlines drama from producer Ryan Murphy. The series follows Jeffrey Dahmer across the decades when he murdered at least 17 boys and men, evading capture largely due to his choice of victims.
Netflix
Netflix is still the leading premium streaming service, with over 200 million worldwide subscribers. It offers thousands of movies and TV shows to binge watch, including its always growing list of original films and series, including Stranger Things, The Witcher, Bridgerton, and many more.
Andor
The best Star Wars title in years, Andor hasn’t had quite as much buzz as recent shows like The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it has managed to rank every week since its premiere, making it one of the most popular streaming shows in October. The prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story follows Cassian Andor in the early days of the rebellion as he finds himself at a crossroads and up against the Empire.

This streaming service is the home of all Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars movies. It’s also got a bunch of exciting originals like The Mandalorian, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, and more.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power viewership has certainly died down since the finale aired on October 14, but it was a streaming juggernaut in early October. The prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic fantasy novels has been a major win for Amazon, following familiar characters along with new ones and charting the rise of the dark lord Sauron.
Amazon Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video offers access to thousands of movies and TV shows to stream. That includes great original shows and movies like The Boys and The Tomorrow War. You can also sign up for other premium services within Amazon Prime Video.
House of the Dragon
Streaming roughly alongside The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, this Game of Thrones prequel series broke HBO records and was one of the most popular streaming shows of the month, holding its own against the Prime Video competition. Set about two centuries before Thrones, the series follows the rise of the Targaryen family and their rule over Westeros. While technically a cable series, HBO released new episodes weekly on HBO Max.
HBO Max
HBO Max is your home for Warner Bros-made movies and TV shows like The Lord of the Rings, the DC Comics superheroes, and more. It’s also the home for new and original movies and shows available nowhere else.
Cobra Kai
A fan-favorite since it moved from YouTube to Netflix, Cobra Kai continues the story of The Karate Kid. Decades after the All Valley Karate Tournament, Johnny Lawrence reopens the Cobra Kai dojo and rekindles his rivalry with Daniel LaRusso. Now in its fifth season, Cobra Kai is a major streaming success.
The Watcher
Netflix tends to do quite well with dramas based on true crime stories. The Watcher is no exception. It rocked to number one very quickly in October. The miniseries is based on a 2018 article by Reeves Wiedeman in New York‘s The Cut. Produced by Ryan Murphy, it follows a family who have just moved into their dream home. But the dream soon ends when they start receiving threatening letters from a mystery watcher.
The Peripheral
Amazon’s The Peripheral isn’t quite doing Rings of Power numbers, but it’s off to a big start. Chloe Grace Moretz stars in this new series from sci-fi visionary William Gibson. Moretz plays a young woman with no future, until the future comes for her and she has the opportunity to fight for humanity.
The Crown
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth and ahead of the show’s fifth season, The Crown has been a huge hit on Netflix and made it back into the top 10 throughout October. The prestige drama follows the lives of the Royals throughout the 20th century, including the coronation of Elizabeth. The latest season is set to chronicle 90s scandals and the death of the beloved Princess Diana.
The Great British Baking Show
It’s hard to resist The Great British Baking Show, so it’s no surprise that it continues to dominate in its 22nd season. The baking competition series from across the pond was one of the most popular choices on Netflix in October, where it streams in the US.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law
Disney Plus
Marvel’s She-Hulk series had its first season finale on October 13 on Disney Plus, continuing the streamer’s streak of successful MCU shows. In this one, Jennifer Walters, a successful lawyer and Bruce Banner’s cousin, is infected with Hulk blood and becomes a Hulk herself. Now the face of superhuman legal practice, she has to figure out what kind of hero she wants to be while dealing with online trolls and a messy love life.
Those were some of the most popular streaming shows in October. Which ones did you watch? Did you have any favorites? Let us know in the comments!
