Ford Shows Off F-150 Lightning With Solar Panels And 9 Other Concepts At SEMA 2022

Ford says that its personalization and accessories business has grown by 40 percent in the last two years, thanks in no small part to vehicles like the Bronco. The automaker says, though, that it designs all of its vehicles to be customizable.

“We designed Ford vehicles to be easier to customize, with installation points and aftermarket accessories engineered from the start of the design process,” said Eric Cin, Ford global director, vehicle personalization, accessories, and licensing. “We work actively with the aftermarket to share our product designs so customers can personalize and put the finishing touches on their vehicle to make it all their own.”

To celebrate that customizability, Ford Performance is highlighting 10 builds that are currently on display at the 2022 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mustang Mach-E: True Mustang Persona

Built by Dom Tucci Design, this project started with a 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT that was widened with fender arches, Tucci-made 3D printed fender flares, and a custom lift-gate spoiler. Vacuum-formed transparent 3D-printed wheel covers and front lip help make the EV more aerodynamic, and a custom wrap helps bring even more style. Inside, two Recaro seats and racing harnesses help keep occupants in place, and a custom harness bar and custom-painted accents help make the interior a little nicer.

Bronco Sport: Off-Roading Heritage

This two-tone 2022 Ford Bronco Sport custom build by Yakima seeks to prove how capable the smaller Bronco can be. It features an ARB portable air compressor, an off-road recovery kit, and an Aeroskin hood protector.

The off-road lightbar and A-pillar lighting come from RIGID, while a Borla exhaust upgrade helps the SUV sound a little nicer. An off-road recovery kit, a NOCO GB-70 battery jump start pack, and a roof rack are perfect for longer trips.

Bronco: Extreme Beach/Extreme Sports Support

WARN’s take on the 2022 Bronco Wildtrak is perfect for anglers, athletes, and more. It has plenty of off-road capability thanks to a DANA D60 axle with 5.48 gearing. A 270-degree awning, meanwhile, provides plenty of shade, while a fishing rod box and an Indel B refrigerator that can run all night long will help you catch and store your fish.

Bronco: Service Unit Vehicle

Inspired by the rugged and capable medical service vehicles from the early 1900s, ARB’s take on the 2022 Bronco Wildtrak has tube doors, an under-hood air compressor, a rack mount, a winch, and a lightbar to help rescue stranded outdoor enthusiasts.

Maverick: Street Truck

This 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid rides the line between mini truck and utility vehicle. LEER’s effort for SEMA has an expandable power station, a toolbox, and a roof rack in case you need even more storage. Solar panels designed by Ford Research and Advanced Engineering connect to external charging ports to ensure that drivers always have a number of ways to power their tools.

F-150 Lightning: Swiss Army Knife

Built by Tjin and Thule, this is an all-electric jack-of-all-trades. It, too, comes with solar panels, a portable air compressor, a fridge, a console vault, and Thule cargo accessories. With Recaro seats front and back, a lowered suspension, and big wheels, it’s also a looker. But it remains functional with two Super73 e-bikes mounted to the back.

F-150 Lightning: Race Support

The F-150 Lightning isn’t just useful on the street, it can be useful on the track, too, as this Real Truck race support build shows. Featuring an air compressor, a leveling kit, off-road recovery boards, and a mobile toolbox and welding equipment, it’s the perfect complement to a medical car. It also features a Retrax bed cover that has a rail system, crossbars, and a spare wheel. With wheels borrowed from a Ford Raptor vehicle and a livery inspired by the Bronco Desert Racer, it’s ideal for desert racing.

F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid: Remote Off-Roading

Hybrid technology isn’t just useful for fuel economy, it can also act as a little generator for long off-road journeys, as this build from BDS Suspension proves. Equipped with 7.2 kW of battery capacity, an air compressor, a WARN recovery kit, a first aid kit, a console vault, and a lifted suspension, it’s the ideal truck for remote off-roading.

Bronco: Off-Roading Performance

As we all know, the 2022 Ford Bronco is a capable off-roader, especially when it’s modified with 4.70 gearing at both axles, a WARN winch, a Yakima two-person tent, a rear-mounted ARB jack, and Ford calibrating tuning, like this SEMA Businesswomen’s Network Bronco.

Transit: Digital Nomad

Proving that it’s not just SUVs and pickups that can go off-road, John Pangilian’s Digital Nomad Transit van comes equipped with an air compressor, an off-road assistance kit, a sliding kitchen and fridge, and a 270-degree awning for those beautiful summer camping trips.
